Mental Health Awareness Week Scotland
Mental Health Awareness Week is a national week in the UK to raise awareness of mental health difficulties and promote positive mental health.
This year, it took place on the 18-24 May 2020. The theme was ‘kindness’, looking at the power and potential of kindness in our lives.
Kindness and mental health
Kindness is doing something towards yourself or others that aims to make a positive difference. Research has shown that kindness and mental health are linked. It has been shown to help feelings of isolation, create a sense of belonging, confidence and lead to a more positive outlook.
In light of the coronavirus outbreak, we also have the chance to think about what type of society we want to be afterwards.
Let’s choose to be kind.
Our Chief Executive, Wendy Bates, has written a blog all about what kindness means and how we can practice it here.
You could also take a look at our article about the random acts of kindness that you could do during the coronavirus outbreak, here. Although a lot of things have changed through COVID-19, the fundamental ways that we can be kind to each other remain the same.
Being kind to yourself and looking after your own mental wellbeing is important too. We also have some resources available to give you some tips and steps to help promote positive mental health, such as the 5 ways to wellbeing.
