Help us, help you...

'The person who interviewed me, who ended up being my line manager at the time, I remember thinking how nice he was, he was really genuine, and it was really nice, it was just a kind of informal chat rather than an interview and he asked me about my skillsets, and he was like, ‘I think we can use them all’, and he was really excited, and complimentary, it was a confidence boost. I could see him thinking of all the ideas, and it was lovely. It was welcoming.

I was craving to build on job skills, so subconsciously, I was looking for a nice sector to work in, and I found Health in Mind, which is really nice.

They are really positive about helping people, there’s reoccurring themes, of anxiety, depression, that kind of thing is prevalent, and that’s what Health in Mind wants to help with, most.

I guess, opening up is one of the things we need to do. To talk about it, and not have it shamed as much. If you can’t do it with a GP.

I think, sometimes, when you are in the midst of it, it feels like everything is heavy, when there’s a giant cloud hanging over you, and you don’t know how it could possibly get better, I think if I was to try and send a message to anybody, I’d say, it always can get better, with help, and that’s the first step. Find something that works for you, whether it’s a social club, or meeting friends, or opening up to people. Something will help.

It’s something I look forward to, to come here. I feel like I can contribute, I come in for two hours a week, and everybody is so nice. At the time when I first started at Health in Mind I was unemployed, I didn’t have a structure to my week, and it was quite a weird time for me, so the two hours was just amazing, for confidence, and to socialise, and to get the positive feedback. It was really, really helpful.’
