'I’ve worked here for over a while now. My favourite thing about working at Health in Mind is the staff, the people who work with Health in Mind. I worked in the Arts before, so I’ve come from a slightly different sector, into Health in Mind.

I think it’s sort of encouraging, that there is a general shift in attitude  towards mental health and wellbeing, as it’s something that everybody has. Everybody has mental health, whether it’s good, or bad, or changeable, or indifferent, and it’s encouraging a new mindset, where it’s one of the things, like exercise or eating well, that we need to do and look after.
Even if you deem yourself mentally well, you’re not immune to anything happening, so maintaining it, keeping doing what works for you, to stay that way, is important, I think.

I’m the manager for Health in Mind’s Resolve Services. I work on and develop our paid for services including Resolve counselling and our training work.

One of the other services I’m involved with is a telephone counselling service (Trauma Counselling Line Scotland), which reaches people throughout Scotland, often in really isolated or rural areas, it’s a really unique service, I feel like if it wasn’t there it would take away a bit of a unique gap in the counselling services that we provide, or generally, that are provided across Scotland.

It’s designed to reach people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to engage with face-face counselling, and I think if that wasn’t there I’d be hard-pushed to identify a similar service that people could engage with. That’s why it’s so special, and that’s why we’ve worked hard to try and maintain it.

I think, because some of the services are dealing with people who have had really difficult backgrounds, difficult situations in their childhoods that have really affected their lives, quite profoundly, it makes it more powerful when you can see people talk about how our services have changed their life.
That might be in a small way, or a big way, but when we receive feedback from those people using the service, those people who have engaged with our services, it’s really powerful.'
