Blue Monday

In January, we often hear people talk about ‘Blue Monday’ which some people claim is the most depressing day of the year. This is based on things like the colder, darker weather, post-Christmas blues or financial worries, and the disappointment of not keeping up with our new year’s resolutions.

But we know that it's not only one day of the year when we can feel blue - it's any day. We all have mental health, and some days will be harder than others.

Rather than focusing on one day of the year, there are steps that we can take each day to look after ourselves and our wellbeing. The five ways to wellbeing are five steps we can take to promote positive mental health: connect, keep active, give, keep learning, and take notice.

This could be things like reaching out to someone you’ve lost contact with, going for a walk on your lunch break, volunteering, trying a new recipe once in a while, or taking up a mindful hobby like knitting or journaling. Our resource on the five ways, which includes further tips and suggestions to follow, can be found here.

Blue Cake Day

To recognise that we can all feel blue, we have created Blue Cake Day.

Blue Cake Day is a coffee morning (virtual or in real life) which raises awareness and starts positive conversations about mental health. It’s a great way to get together, have a chat, and raise vital funds to support our work, helping us reach more people. You can find more information about how to hold your own Blue Cake Day here.
