Charities Against Hate Survey (September 2020)

#CharitiesAgainstHate is a campaign to encourage social media companies to be more inclusive and do better to prevent online hate. We are active members of a working group of more than 40 charities around the UK who are collaborating to develop long-term recommendations for real and meaningful change.

As charities, we use social media for many reasons, such as fundraising, raising awareness, sharing information and connecting with the communities that we support. But we also know that some people use social media inappropriately to share hate speech. Hate speech is when someone says something hateful or encourages violence towards others because of who they are, what they look like, where they are from, what they believe in or because they are different in some way. This can have a profound and lasting effect and can cause harm to real people.

We would like to find out about your experiences around hate speech so we can make informed suggestions around how to prevent online hate.
