Help us, help you...

Self Employed Sessional Counsellor

Hourly rate: starting at £22 per hour of counselling, but may increase to a max of £25 depending on the service.  This rate includes time for client record keeping and data inputting.

Hours:  Our aim is to respond to client need, therefore hours vary.  However, both daytime and evening hours are required. We prefer counsellors to take on a minimum of 3 clients per week.

Person Specification:
New service development means that we are seeking to expand our team of sessional counsellors throughout Scotland.  We would like to hear from you if you
- Have at least two years post-qualifying experience,
- Have a minimum of 200 hours client work in the last two years;
- Are accredited or working towards accreditation with either BACP, UKCP or other relevant professional body;
- Have experience in working with trauma
- Are a member of the PVG scheme, or be willing to become a member

Location:  Face to face hours will depend on levels of customer need, which is currently growing.  We are therefore interested in applications from Edinburgh and Glasgow and would consider other locations.  Face to face hours would be delivered from an appropriate local venue and we appreciate help from our Counsellors in identifying cost-effective local spaces.

Telephone counsellors are home-based.  We expect an appropriate and confidential working space to be available, in line with professional guidelines.

Health in Mind

Health in Mind is a charity promoting positive mental health and wellbeing, with our core work focused in Edinburgh and the Lothians.  We are also a Company Limited by Guarantee.

Our values are important to us and are: compassion; respect; realising potential; inclusion and integrity.

Our approach: Telephone hours utilise a virtual call centre, which allows calls to be made free to the client; each counsellor logs on and off the system.

Our counselling services use CORE online to record client progress and counsellors are expected to input client data to the system and undertake regular client reviews seeking agreement from the Counselling Team Leader prior to committing to further sessions.  Counsellors will therefore need confidential access to a PC in order to update records.

You would be expected to work within the BACP ethical framework and in line with Health in Mind’s policies, which will be provided to you.  All client information should be kept confidentially in secure, locked cabinets.  Paper records should be minimised and should not duplicate online data.

Health in Mind monitors the effectiveness of the service through annual reviews with the counsellor where necessary.  These meetings can include feedback from the counsellor’s clinical supervisor where this is deemed necessary and appropriate.

Counsellors must receive regular external clinical supervision in line with BACP guidelines.  This is undertaken at the counsellor’s own expense.

You will be expected to provide two referees, one of whom is your current clinical supervisor.

If you are not a PVG scheme member, we would require you to join at your own expense, since membership is portable / lifelong.  Health in Mind will pay for a scheme member update should you be offered work with us.

If working with us, you will be expected to provide evidence of your qualifications; self employed status and that appropriate insurance is in place.
