Target Audience

Managers.

Aim

The aim of the course is to give you a greater awareness of the benefits of creating and maintaining a mentally healthy workplace. The programme is designed to:

  • Identify the key factors that contribute to a mentally healthy workplace
  • Increase your awareness of mental health issues in the workplace
  • Improve your confidence in dealing with mental health and wellbeing in the workplace
  • Ensure that you are aware of the legislation that relates to mental health and wellbeing in the workplace

Course Outline

  • Welcome and introductions
  • Why mental health in the workplace is important
  • Features and benefits of a healthy workplace
  • Stress in the workplace... what do we mean by stress? What causes stress? How stress affects people in the workplace; Health and Safety Executive Management Standards for managing stress
  • Good practice in dealing with stress, health and wellbeing
  • The Equality Act 2010... The scope of the act; Types of discrimination; Definitions; Protection and exceptions
  • The practical implications of dealing with the Equality Act; Implications for policy and procedures; Implications for work practices
  • Promoting a mentally healthy workplace and good personal mental health

Trainer information

This course will be facilitated by Tom Thomson from Healthy Working Lives. Tom is also a member of national training for SMHFA.
