Aim
The aim of the course is to give you a greater awareness of the benefits of creating and maintaining a mentally healthy workplace. The programme is designed to:
- Identify the key factors that contribute to a mentally healthy workplace
- Increase your awareness of mental health issues in the workplace
- Improve your confidence in dealing with mental health and wellbeing in the workplace
- Ensure that you are aware of the legislation that relates to mental health and wellbeing in the workplace

- Welcome and introductions
- Why mental health in the workplace is important
- Features and benefits of a healthy workplace
- Stress in the workplace... what do we mean by stress? What causes stress? How stress affects people in the workplace; Health and Safety Executive Management Standards for managing stress
- Good practice in dealing with stress, health and wellbeing
- The Equality Act 2010... The scope of the act; Types of discrimination; Definitions; Protection and exceptions
- The practical implications of dealing with the Equality Act; Implications for policy and procedures; Implications for work practices
- Promoting a mentally healthy workplace and good personal mental health

This course will be facilitated by Tom Thomson from Healthy Working Lives. Tom is also a member of national training for SMHFA.
