Support, Accommodation & Respite Service

Providing community based support for people with long term and enduring mental health difficulties and respite breaks for carers.

The Support, Accommodation and Respite Service (SARS) team provide personal, emotional and practical support to enable people experiencing long term and enduring mental health difficulties to stay in their home. A range of general housing management and accommodation services are also provided.  

A respite service is available to give carers a break from caring for a couple of hours a week.

Referrals and charges

This service is regulated by the Care Inspectorate. Referrals are accepted from a number of sources, including self referrals. Please contact us for an application form.

Many people are not required to pay for their support or just pay a small contribution towards the cost.

Support at home is currently funded in a number of ways:

  • Social Work Department – requires completion of financial assessment
  • Supporting People – requires completion of financial assessment
  • Direct Payments - requires an assessment to be carried out by the City of Edinburgh Council Funding Independence Team
  • Private Contract – funded by the client
